leave him to do the tyres then..............

stick with what you know, get the correct pd oil in the car.

I believe its Castrol Edge 5/30 fully synthetic (507.00) you require this includes the 505.01 which the vw pd engine must have.

its not marked on the oil as 505.01 but I understand 507.00 exceeds this.

but check first.

Use any oil that meets 505.01. That is the important spec for PD engines. Do not confuse with 505.00 which is NOT to be used with PD engines under any circumstance!

507.00 spec oil also meets 505.01 but is a very expensive longlife oil designed for modern VW CR engines under the longlife (upto 30k/2year) variable service regime for VW CR engines. PD engines do not support the variable service regime so you must change at 10,000 miles/1year intervals.

So why waste money?

5/30W oils will give you a small (around 3%) benefit in fuel economy over 5/40W. Full synth is better than semi-synth which in turn is better than mineral oil.

Quantum Synta Platinum 5/40W is a VAG product fully synthetic PD oil sold by most VW dealers at around

OH S**T, just serviced my car at weekend and used halfords 5w/40 diesel oil, just noticed the bottle label, only 502.00 & 505.00, but the website clearly shows label as being 505.01 spec.

My advice; drain it and do it again...I nearly made exactly the same mistake with Halfords rubbish, their 'guide book' will tell you it's fine but it's not. You must have 505.01 for the PD engines (2000 - 2006 TDi) I use Eurocarparts always accurate and free delivery. I've used both Triple QX (for PD engines) and the more expensive Castrol Edge, both fully synth, both 5w40.
